Borrowing and Membership

Residents and taxpayers for the town of Gorham, in good standing with the library, have free access to all of the library services. An active library card is needed to check out materials. Non-residents may apply for library cards for an annual fee set by the library’s Board of Trustees.

Accessibility Statement

The Gorham Public Library strives to create an online experience that is welcoming and inclusive to people with a wide range of abilities. This includes those who rely on assistive technology to access online services, in addition to individuals with cognitive and digital-literacy challenges.

An important part of our commitment to those using assistive technology includes the implementation of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 level AA. While we strive for full compliance we are aware that our website may not fully conform at this time.

Audio Visual Materials

Audio books

There is a selection of audio books, playable with any CD player or computer drive, in the library located in the Reading Room. A Larger selection of downloadable audio books can be located on the Overdrive/Libby.

  • You can search for these in the catalog; they will bee marked with “AUD” in the locations bar or have “sound recording” in front of the title of the material.

DVDs

These include many documentaries, TV series, feature films and shorts. Children movies are located in the children’s room. All other movies are located in the Reading Room.

  • You can search for these in the catalog; they will bee marked with “DVD” in the locations bar or have “videorecording” in front of the title of the material.

Libby/Overdrive

Online access to Ebooks, audio books, and magazines.

How to sign in:

  • Use the whole number on the back of your patron card as your Username.
  • Your password is the phone number the library has on file without the 1-603 for New Hampshire residents and without the 1 for other phone numbers.

Magazines and Newspapers

Magazines are located in the Reading Room. All magazines, except for the current issue are available for checkout.

White Mountain Collection

A collection of books and documents about the North Eastern area of the White Mountains. This includes the towns: Berlin, Gorham, Milan, Randolph, Shelburne, and the White Mountains. Books apart of this collection cannot leave the library.

Library of Things

  • Early Learning Kits: An activity bag designed to help prepare your child for school by learning about essential concepts. Kits are available on a first come first serve basis and one kit per family may be taken out for 2 weeks.
  • Enrichment Kits: Is there a new skill you want to learn? Or technology you would like to try? Or a game youโ€™ve been dying to play? Our Enrichment Kits are take-home kits for exploration, discovery, entertainment, and fun! We offer enrichment kits for different age groups on a variety of different themes. Each kit checks out for two weeks. Please return kits to the Circulation Desk.
  • Launchpads: A structured digital learning solution that helps kids develop skills one step at a time. Devices are pre-loaded with content designed with simple, easy-to-use interface, and 100% secure.
  • New Hampshire Toy Library: GPL is able to be a host site for NH Toy Library thanks to grant from New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, done in partnership with Berlin Public Library, and White Mountain Community College. The goal of our toy library is to provide access to education toys for all children in our community as well as reduce waste from discarded toys. Library members are able to borrow the toys for two weeks at a time and return them just as they would a library book.
  • Portable Telescope: includes StarBlast 4.5 Telescope, Instruction Manual (Also available in large print ask the desk), National Audubon Society Pocket Guide: Constellations, Starry Night CD and DVD, Star and Planet Locator and Manual. Big thank you to The New Hampshire Astronomical Society for the Library Telescope Program. Telescope may be checked out for 1 week. (Currently Unavailable)
  • Puzzles: Puzzles are available for loan. When borrowing a puzzle please keep in mind that these puzzles may have a missing piece or two. To reduce the number of lost pieces we ask that you return them directly to the desk and not the return bin. Puzzles may be checked out for 2 weeks.
  • Rubber Stamps: includes a variety of holiday, animals, characters, letters and words. Stamps and stamp pad/Ink are checked out individually. Stamps and Ink pads may be checked out for 2 weeks.

  • Gorham Historical Society: Gorham Historical Society is dedicated to safeguarding, researching and documenting the history of Gorham, New Hampshire.
  • Gorham Town Reports: Digital Copies of Town Reports from 1923 to present. Part of the University of New Hampshire’s Digital Collection.

  • Coos County Botanical Garden Club Collection: Check out the collection of Gardening books from the gardening club along with the Gardening books in the library’s collection.
  • When to Plant?: The University of New Hampshire has information, a printable table, and list of crop information to help New Hampshire gardeners decide when to plant crops.

  • Best 10 Trails in Gorham Area: Search for the right hike for you and your group. Hikers can choose hike difficulty, length of the hike, and suitability (Kid, Dog, ect. friendly). Will even give you directions to the trail head.
  • Hiking Resources: Articles and lists from the American Hiking Society that help beginner to experience hikers.
  • Hiking with Children: Article of some things to think about when hiking with kid(s).

Mount Washington Hiking

  • Hiking the Mount Washington: Information from Mt. Washington Auto Road to help you plan for a hike up Mt. Washington. Including essential gear, which path to take, and about the mountain itself.
  • Mount Washington Weather Report: Most current weather report for different areas on Mt. Washington. It is recommend checking the this site when you planning for your hike, the night before your hike, and the morning of your hike.

Appalachian Trail Hiking

  • Explore the Appalachian Trail: Site that helps plan your A.T. Hike. Includes an interactive map of the trail.
  • Appalachian Trail Information: If you are hiking the Appalachian Trail this site will help you plan for the next segment of your trip. This site has update trail information on closures, hazards, and other information that may effect your plan for you hiking trip.
