An Early Literacy Kit is an activity bag designed to help prepare your child for school by learning about essential concepts. Kits are available on a first come first serve basis and one kit per family may be taken out for two weeks.
About the Kits:
Early Childhood is an exciting time! Brain growth is rapid and children are growing physically at a feast rate; developing new skills and exploring their world. As the caregiver of a young child you have the unique opportunity to help give them the building blocks for learning to help them have social, emotional, and educational successes as they grow.
It can be a challenge to know what activities you can do with such a young child to help them learn. During these early years learning happens through play and exploration as while as connection to caring adults. That is why Gorham Public Library, with grant support from the federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds and made possible by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and the New Hampshire State Library, created Early Learning Kits. These kits are meant to support caregivers to help them engage with their children in a way that promotes social/emotional development and helps develop early literacy skills.
These kits are meant to be enjoyed by children and their caregivers together. Please do not leave children unattended with the contents of these kits.
